Wollombi is surrounded by Yengo National Park and the Watagans, making it a perfect location for bird watching, bushwalking, observing native fauna, and other Hunter Valley outdoor activities.

Anzac Reserve

Located at the beginning of Narone Creek Road, the reserve is perfect for a picnic or a spot of bird watching. Why not ride your bike?

Local Bushwalks

The Wollombi Valley is a great base for short walks or long treks. Bordered by Yengo National Park, Watagans National Park, and the State Forests of the Watagan Mountains including Olney and Heaton.

The name ‘Wollombi’ is derived from the Aboriginal meaning ‘meeting of the waters’ and prior to European settlement Wollombi held great significance for local Aboriginal tribes who used the area as a ceremonial meeting place.

Two bicycles are provided at each retreat for your use. We recommend the wearing of the safety helmets supplied. Download a list of nice easy rides.

Golf

If golf is your thing, there are a number of 18-hole courses within a 30 minute drive of Wollombi, including Hunter Valley Golf & Country Club and The Vintage.

The Convict Trail

This is the name for the convict built Great North Road, the surrounding land and historic buildings. It was constructed between 1826 and 1836 to provide an overland route between Sydney and Newcastle. It remains an extraordinary feat of engineering.

Horse Riding

Enjoy the Hunter Valley on horseback with Hunter Valley Horse Riding & Adventures or stop at Glenworth Valley on your way to Wollombi.

Greater Blue Mountains Drive

Further afield are a number of scenic drives west of Wollombi.
Wollemi Foothills – Following the Goulburn and Hunter Rivers along the base of the Wollemi escarpment past vineyards and grazing stock.
Great North Road – An interest-packed drive through the historic Macdonald and Wollombi valleys on the eastern side of the mountains.
