Both of the retreats at ‘Somewhere Unique’ are designed as a complete getaway. Surrounded by native bushland and birdsong, these private cabins offer an opportunity for busy couples to unwind, reset, and refresh.

Consequently, most of our guests are keen to recline on the sunbeds on the verandas and just commune with nature while daydreaming. However, others tend to seek more active pursuits without actually leaving their retreat. Fortunately, we cater to every type of guest preference.

Each retreat is stocked with a variety of books, both fiction and non-fiction. Titles range from contemporary novels and short stories to travel books and books about classic Australiana. (Each cabin also features a copy of ‘The Great Gatsby’, what we consider to be the finest novel ever written). We also provide a range of magazines, mostly focussing on fashion and travel, and there are also high-quality coffee table books mostly featuring the diverse and beautiful Australian landscape.

If reading is not your interest, each cabin has a variety of board games. These include many of the classics such as Scrabble.

Music is particularly important for creating memories and atmosphere and so we provide an extensive range of CDs which include everything from classical to pop. We also provide an extensive range of movies on DVD featuring classic and contemporary films.

Of course, we have a large LED television in each retreat connected to Foxtel which offers an wide range of channels from movies, to music, to radio. Connected to the rear of each television is a Google Chromecast dongle which allows the guest to stream their own content from their own electronic device.

The cupboard in the main bedroom offers a further trove of equipment for the enjoyment of each guest including two yoga mats which can be used on the living room floor or in a more natural setting on the veranda. We also provide backpacks, handy for local hikes, and complete a picnic hamper and rug which can be taken to one of many local destinations for a leisurely romantic picnic.

Stored in the drawers of the coffee table in each living room is a set of binoculars and a bird identification book so that each guest can spot the extensive range of birdlife visiting ‘Somewhere Unique’.

For slightly more strenuous activity we provide two bikes at each retreat which can be ridden around the valley. We especially recommend riding further up Narone Creek Road for several kilometres, where the rider will pass a vineyard, spectacular rolling hills, Narone Creek, and perhaps even an alpaca or two. One of the bikes has a carry basket in case the guest is tempted to venture into the village to make some local purchases.

And, if all that is not enough, we provide a voluminous compendium of suggested adventures, activities, and outings throughout the Wollombi Valley and beyond. There are also an extensive range of maps which include walking trails and the rich convict history of the local district.

So whether the guests preference is to take it slow and snooze on the veranda, win at a game of Scrabble, hike through natural bushland, or ride a bike to the village, we try to cater to all tastes and preferences.

Of course, each guest is also provided a survey where we encourage input as to further suggestions for activities, or equipment, which we can provide for the future enjoyment of others.
