At ‘Somewhere Unique’ we are always seeking improvement and a higher standard for our guests, and so we were extremely fortunate to recently work with international fashion photographer, Lee Oliveira, to update and upgrade many of the images on our website.
Brazil-born and Sydney-based, Lee is a creative consultant and photographer working with international media outlets including The New York Times, Grazia Italy, Marie Claire Brazil, Harper’s Bazaar Brazil, and Men’s Style Magazine Australia.
It was exciting to be working at ‘Somewhere Unique’ with such a renowned fashion photographer. Lee and his partner, Jamie, worked collaboratively with us over two days staying in the retreats and photographing every aspect of our accommodation offering.
Lee has become a ubiquitous name within the international fashion scene having been at the forefront as a new wave of expression in the digital environment by introducing ‘Street Style’ into the social media world, specifically Instagram.
Initially, working with Gucci, Lee was the iconic brand’s first street photographer based in Hong Kong and Singapore and he was subsequently featured in Vogue.com, South China Morning Post, WWD, Corriere De La Serra, and The Chicago Tribune. Two defining projects followed, with Gucci and Valentino, and then Lee worked extensively for the New York Times Fashion department in a digital capacity, while also contributing to the Thursday Styles column. Lee’s unofficial signature of capturing the environment with talent and geo-tagging created a substantial rise in Instagram followers for The New York Times.
From art direction and styling, to branding and forecasting, to photography, Lee is enjoying a rich career having now worked on creative campaigns and digital projects for Gucci, Valentino, Tod’s, Tommy Hilfiger, Santoni, Delveaux, Levi’s, Samsung, and Matches Fashion.
Continuing his pursuits in Sydney, Lee actively participates in Australia Fashion Week seasonally and continues to work extensively with Australian brands.
Lee’s aesthetic is in capturing both a moment and a feeling, and he sees himself as a chronicler of art, culture, and individuality.
When we asked Lee about the highlight of his career so far, he eagerly told us about Iceberg’s Fall/Winter 2018 show in Milan where he contributed to the brand’s first magazine which was a rare and memorable experience because the show started at Quadrilatero della Moda proceeded to Via Montenapoleone, passing the Piazza Duomo, and ended at Piazza Castello.
At ‘Somewhere Unique’, we were grateful to obtain the services of Lee for a photoshoot at our retreats. He is very professional and is driven by artistic vision yet is remarkably humble and personable. The fantastic images he captured, which will soon be uploaded to our website, highlight Lee’s expertise, professionalism, and sense of fun. Thank you, Lee!
