Memories for The Groundsman and I this month have been watching a pair of Australasian Grebes, a tiny water fowl, bring up their young on the Wollombi Millpond. From their floating nests amongst the water weeds these tiny chicks have ventured into the water, learning to both deep dive for food, and, forage on the waters’ surface. We’ve seen them nestle onto the backs of their parents for rest and safety. It has been a joy to watch them grow as we’ve walked each morning. Another walk now beckons with a coffee at the end …. these are good days.
