Residents and visitors to Wollombi have always been spoilt for choice regarding wining and dining in the Main Street of the historic village.

‘Panino Restaurant and Deli’ has long been the main culinary drawcard of the village. Set in a beautiful historic sandstone building, the restaurant offers delicious Italian style food in a relaxed, rustic setting, both al-a-carte and al fresco – outside dining, at the rear of the restaurant, overlooks a charming parterre-style garden where children play and adults relax. The evening menu is extensive and authentic while, during the day, the café offers a more casual menu; pizza, pasta, hamburgers and salads.

Other options include: ‘The Harp of Erin Café’, housed in the Wollombi General Store, serves great coffee and has a selection of hot and cold food available. The General Store was built in the 1850’s and retains its heritage and character; And the ‘Wollombi Tavern’, renown as the home of Dr Jurd’s Jungle Juice, also offers a bistro lunch and dinner. The al-a-carte menu is available on Friday and Saturday nights, and the popular bar menu and pizzas are available midweek.

However, the latest exciting addition to the Main Street is ‘Myrtle House Café’. Formerly the Wollombi Café, the premises has been thoroughly updated and revamped and now offers fresh, healthy and tasty food with country hospitality. The café is open for coffee, breakfast and leisurely lunch every day of the week, with a special theme night menu on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

At ‘Myrtle House Café’ guests can choose a sunny dog-friendly spot outside on the veranda or under the shade of the umbrellas on the outdoor deck. On cooler days, inside there are the toasty warmth of the cosy open fires in the book room and front rooms.

‘Myrtle House Café’ also houses a bike-hire business, owned by a local operator. Bike helmets are supplied, so residents and guests can enjoy beautiful Wollombi and its unique history by pushbike. And coming soon, is a therapy room where massages will be available to guests – have a meal, relax in the sun, go for a ride, and finish with a massage – ‘Myrtle House Café’ can provide all of these services!

Murray and I enjoy the theme nights – over the past several weeks we have enjoyed a sumptuous Greek feast, exotic Thai curries, and Italian pasta and pizzas. It’s all supported by great friendly service within a wonderful local relaxed atmosphere. ‘Myrtle House Café’, in conjunction with the other dining options in the Wollombi Main Street, offer variety, delicious food, friendly service and a wealth of choice!
